Booking the transportation of animals
Long-distance trains
The transportation of small pets, dogs, cats and birds on long-distance trains is allowed in addition to the established carry-on baggage allowance, whereby no more than two small pets, dogs or cats or no more than two birds are allowed per one seat/berth on each booked/issued ticket. Information about the carriages of long-distance trains in which the transportation of small pets, dogs, cats and birds is allowed, as well as a list of the small pets, dogs, cats and birds that can be transported, are established by the carrier’s rules and brought to the attention of passengers.
Fees are charged for the transportation of small pets, dogs, cats and birds on long-distance trains. The charge is set by the rules of the carrier.
If payment has been made for all the seats/berths in a compartment, a separate fee for the transportation of small pets, dogs, cats and birds is not charged.
Small pets, cats and dogs (with the exception of large, service and guide dogs), except the case of transporting small dogs, as well as large and service dogs, and birds, must be transported in boxes, baskets, cages or containers and positioned in the areas intended for the placement and storage of hand luggage in such a way as to exclude the possibility of any harm coming to passengers and the employees and property of the carrier from such animals, dogs, cats or birds. The total measurements of the three dimensions, that is length + width + height, of such a piece of hand luggage should not exceed a total of 180 cm.
On long-distance trains, small dogs that are not placed in boxes, baskets, cages or containers must be transported in the manner prescribed for the transportation of large and service dogs.
When transporting small pets, dogs and birds, their owners or accompanying persons must ensure that the sanitary and hygienic regime in the carriage is observed.
On long-distance trains, large and service dogs are transported in a separate compartment under the supervision of their owners or accompanying persons and on payment of the full cost of all unoccupied seats/berths at the rate for the transportation of an adult passenger but without any additional payment for their transportation, whereby the total number of dogs travelling in a compartment and their owners or accompanying persons should not exceed the number of seats/berths in the compartment. Large and service dogs must be muzzled, on a leash and kept on the floor of the compartment in which they are transported.
The transportation of small pets, dogs and birds on long-distance trains does not require the presentation of any veterinary documents.
The transportation of small pets, dogs, cats and birds on long-distance and suburban trains is subject to veterinary regulations and requirements.
If a passenger and/or sender withdraws from carrying the baggage on to the train or dispatching the baggage before the departure of the train on which the baggage was to be transported, they are refunded payments in the amount of the cost of the baggage transportation. A fee is charged for processing the refund of payments on the ticket or transportation document.
Conditions for the transportation of small domestic (pet) animals, dogs and birds on trains operated by the Federal Passenger Company.
Suburban Services
On suburban trains, small dogs can be transported without containers when muzzled and on a leash, and cats under the supervision of their owners or accompanying persons.
When transporting large dogs on trains, they must be muzzled and on a leash:
- in a suburban train’s vestibule (no more than two dogs per carriage) – under the supervision of their owners or accompanying persons with payment for the cost of their transportation.
A fee is charged for the carriage of small domestic (pet) animals, dogs and birds on suburban trains.
The transportation of small domestic (pet) animals, dogs and birds on suburban trains on the territory of the Russian Federation does not require the presentation of veterinary documents.
Guide dogs for the disabled
Disabled people can take guide dogs with them in carriages of all types if they have a document confirming they have undergone special training. There is no charge for the transportation of guide dogs and no tickets are issued. Guide dogs must be muzzled, collared and kept at the feet of the passenger it accompanies.
