Меры по борьбе с шумовым воздействием объектов железнодорожного транспортаIn densely populated urban areas, physical environmental pollution factors, particularly noise, are of increased importance. Transportation is one of the sources of acoustic discomfort in residential areas. Therefore, JSCo “RZD” pays close attention to reducing the negative impact of physical factors and implements a range of measures to reduce acoustic impact and vibration.

Noise and vibration reduction is an important part of the Company’s Environmental Strategy.

Every year, JSCo “RZD” takes measures to reduce noise and vibration at the source of generation (wheel-rail interaction) and on the path of propagation to the object of protection.

In 2023, the Company took the following technical measures to reduce noise impact from railway infrastructure:

  • laying of continuous welded rails (4.3 thousand km);
  • rail grinding (29.6 thousand km);
  • switch grinding (1.2 thousand units);
  • welding of rail joints by aluminothermic method (38.3 thousand);
  • use of highly elastic tie plates (18.4 million units);
  • planting of trees (7.4 thousand) and shrubs (10.7 thousand);
  • installation of noise barriers (over 19.2 km).

To assess the impact and spread of noise in urban agglomerations near railway infrastructure, JSCo “RZD” continued its extensive efforts in 2023 to create noise maps for the most critical sections. As a result, 26 noise maps were drafted. They will be used to reduce the noise to regulatory permissible level in residential areas and to implement noise protection measures in cooperation with local authorities.
