CHILDREN’S TRAVEL ON LONG-DISTANCE TRAINS

Tickets are issued free of charge to children under the age of 5, who may not occupy a separate seat (1 child per passenger).

If a child under 5 years of age occupies a separate seat/berth when travelling on a long-distance train, it is issued a ticket in accordance with the tariff for the transportation of children.

If the child turns 5 years of age on the day the train departs, it is issued a ticket free of charge if it does not occupy a separate seat/berth.

In accordance with the tariff for the transportation of children – for children from 5 to 10 years of age.

In luxury class carriages, one child under 5 years of age and one child under 10 years of age can travel free of charge, regardless of the number of adults travelling (except for carriages operated by DOSS, the Directorate of High-Speed Communications).

Children under the age of 10 may not travel unaccompanied on long-distance trains, with the exception of pupils using rail transport to attend educational institutions.

The child’s age shall be determined as at the date of the commencement of travel. If the child turns 10 years old on the day of departure, the travel document (ticket) is purchased at the child fare.

Children under the age of 14 must present an original birth certificate or a notarised copy upon boarding long-distance trains.

If a ticket is issued to a child based on information about their birth certificate and 90 days after the day they reach the age of 14, they are allowed to board the train upon simultaneous presentation of a birth certificate and an identification document (passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation). This procedure applies to citizens of the Russian Federation travelling on domestic routes in trains operated by Federal Passenger Company, except for travel to/from the Kaliningrad region by transit through the territory of the Republic of Lithuania.

Federal Passenger Company trains accept documents confirming student status received in electronic form and signed with an enhanced electronic signature. FPC trains also accept document confirming student status both on paper and in electronic form (on the screen of a mobile device).

If a long-distance train has a compartment with the sign “female”, “male” or specialised places for travelling with children, a passenger of the corresponding gender has the right to purchase a ticket for the specified compartment or the specified place. Tickets for children under 10 years of age are issued in combination with the sign “female” or “male” regardless of the gender of the child.

CHILDREN’S TRAVEL ON SUBURBAN TRAINS

Free for children under the age of 7.

For children over the age of 7, a travel document (ticket) is issued at the adult fare.

Children under the age of 7 may not travel unaccompanied on suburban trains.

If the child turns 7 years old on the day of the train’s departure, it travels free of charge.

For a child under the age of 7 years that does not occupy a separate seat, a non-cash ticket is issued for travel on a suburban train with indication of the seats.

If a child no older than 7 years of age travelling on a commuter train with an indication of seats occupies a separate seat, a ticket is issued to it at the tariff for the transportation of children (if there is a tariff for the transportation of children established by the executive authorities of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation).
