Russian Railways and Russia’s Ministry of Culture agree to work on project to recreate Music Station in Pavlovsk

Russian Railways and the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation have signed an agreement on cooperation to implement the project "The Recreation of the Music Station in Pavlovsk."

The document was signed at the XXVIII St. Petersburg International Economic Forum by Oleg Belozerov, the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Russian Railways, and Olga Lyubimova, the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation.

The agreement provides for joint work by the two parties on the concept of reviving the Pavlovsk Music Station as a unique cultural heritage site. The parties agreed on comprehensive cooperation, from exchanging archival materials to holding joint expert councils.

Such a comprehensive approach will ensure a harmonious combination of the tasks needed to preserve the station’s historical heritage with new technologies and modern artistic strategies.

The Music Station in Pavlovsk was opened to the public on 22 May 1838. It became the final station of Russia’s first passenger railway, as well as the centre of cultural life in the capital of the Russian Empire in the 19th and early 20th centuries. On its stage performed famous figures such as Fyodor Chaliapin, Leonid Sobinov and Anastasia Vyaltseva, while orchestras conducted by Johann Strauss, Alexander Glazunov, Sergei Koussevitzky gave recitals.

During the Great Patriotic War, the station was destroyed. Work on the project to recreate this unique architectural monument, which has played such a major role in the history of culture and railways in Russia, began in November 2023.
