First high-speed "Allegro" train links St. Petersburg and Helsinki

АллегроHigh-speed communication between St. Petersburg and Helsinki commenced with "Allegro" rapid expresses running on the route.

"Allegro" trains are manufactured by Alstom. High-speed rail services cut the travel time between St. Petersburg and Helsinki from 6 hours 18 minutes to a little over 3.5 hours. This became possible thanks to an innovative train model, facilitated border formalities and increased train speeds. "Allegro" trains develop the maximum speed of 200 kph in Russia, 220 kph in Finland.

This trains are unique in their compatibility with both DC and AC lines. With 2 traffic control systems installed, these trains combine Finnish and Russian communications technologies. The train’s design employs the technology of tilting the body up to 8 degrees, which enables passing turns at higher speeds.

The high-speed communication between St. Petersburg and Helsinki was arranged in compliance with the dedicated investment project.
