Aleksandrovsky railway bridge across the Volga opens in Samara governorate
The project was designed by the engineer, professor N.A. Belelyubsky, the construction was supervised by the engineer V.I. Berezin.
With its length of 1436 m, the bridge was long considered the largest in Europe.
The necessary materials were purchased in St. Petersburg and Moscow. 9,423 tonnes of iron and 11.7 tonnes of cement were procured for the construction site from the two capitals. 7,370 tonnes of granite were sourced from Finland and Rybinsk. In total, the construction of the bridge required 32,760 tonnes of materials.
Today it is called Syzransky bridge. Freight and passenger trains run along the bridge in both directions.
