Museum Stations

Shuvakish

Shuvakish station is located in the municipality of Yekaterinburg and is the most spectacular location on the itinerary of the Ural Express retro tourist train.

The station building and boarding platform recreate the appearance of a typical mining railway station in the Urals in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century. All the furniture and interior items are made according to drawings from the period.

Tourists and passengers can “try out” the role of the station master by looking into his office – a stylish photo zone with historical costumes and artifacts – and then relax with a cup of aromatic tea and biscuits in the cozy buffet.

To create an authentic atmosphere, the platform has been fitted with wooden canopies with benches, a clock, a station bell and a navigation sign in the style of the steam age. At night, hundreds of bright lights illuminate the façade of the building, the platform and the canopies to create a special festive mood.

The whole station meets modern construction standards and is equipped with high-quality engineering systems and the building has been adapted for the needs of passengers with limited mobility.

THE HISTORY OF THE STATION

Shuvakish station was opened on 1 October 1878 during the construction of the last section of the Ural Mining Railway from Verkh-Neyvinsk to Yekaterinburg. The station and the village in which it is located received their name from the nearby eponymous lake.

Shuvakish station and its wooden platform were built in the historical style and recreated in accordance with the original drawings in December 2022 in preparation for the launch of the large-scale “Ural Express” tourist project.

Today, the station complex not only attracts tourists, but also residents from the nearby areas and passengers from other commuter trains.

HOW TO GET THERE

Passengers and tourists can take a walk around Shuvakish station as part of a tour on the Ural Express retro train. Its itinerary runs along the circular route “Evening Yekaterinburg” on Fridays and along the route between Yekaterinburg – Verkhnyaya Pyshma Museum at the weekend.

Another option is for passengers to take regular suburban commuter trains. From Yekaterinburg, tourists can take the trains running in the direction of Nizhny Tagil and the Orlan rail buses that run to Verkhnyaya Pyshma.
