Yasnaya Polyana

The era of Leo Tolstoy

Yasnaya Polyana station is situated near the museum-estate of Leo Tolstoy. The station is remarkable for its museum and historical complex "Kozlova Zaseka", which is comprised of:

  • the station building (ticket offices with Express terminal equipment, intercity telephone, telegraph with a working authentic Morse device);
  • a cafeteria;
  • a luggage shed;
  • a platform;
  • a parking lot for vehicles and buses;
  • a cellar;
  • an adjacent landscaped area;
  • a drinking well.

The interior of the station – mirrors, clocks, curtains, lamps, benches – follow the style of the Leo Tolstoy era. Using to the original sketches and technical drawings of the early 1900s, the original view of the station was restored with a wooden canopy over the platform and a bell on the wall ringing before train departures. Old-fashioned streetlights and wooden benches were installed on the platforms.
