GETTING A TICKET AND BOARDING A TRAIN

I have bought an e-ticket for travelling within Russia, what do I have to show the conductor when boarding?
  • To travel on trains that are subject to an automatic electronic check-in, passengers can only board their carriages upon presentation to the conductor of the identity document specified when purchasing their electronic ticket, as well as their boarding pass (electronic ticket), which must be printed out on A4 paper or displayed on the screen of a mobile device. In addition, electronic tickets can be obtained at station ticket offices and self-service terminals.
  • Boarding Federal Passenger Company trains on domestic services, as well as those running on the routes between Russia – Abkhazia and Russia – Belarus, requires passengers to present the identity document whose details were given when booking the electronic ticket.
    A printout of the electronic ticket purchased on the site is not required.
  • For some trains, there is no provision for electronic registration. Such trains are shown by special prompts and information on the site. In such cases, passengers need to obtain their tickets from a station ticket office or self-service terminal.
I have bought an e-ticket but I have not registered electronically. Is it enough to show the conductor my passport and a printout from the website (control coupon)?

No. The control coupon is not valid for travelling. You either need to register electronically and print an e-ticket with your boarding pass (with a 2D code), or collect a paper ticket at the ticket office.

How do I get a ticket (without e-registration)?

You can only collect your ticket in the Russian Federation at a ticket office or using a self-service terminal. The ticket can be collected by one of the passengers named in the booking or by an authorised person (in this case a power of attorney is required).

At the ticket office you can collect tickets for the entire order or for individual e-tickets from the order. To collect a ticket from the ticket office you will need:

  • a passport (or other document indicated on the ticket);
  • a control coupon or order/ticket number;
  • if you are not collecting the ticket for yourself, a power of attorney or a copy thereof (you will need to give it to the booking clerk).

At the self-service terminal, you can get boarding passes (travel documents) for the entire order or for individual e-tickets from the order. To collect your ticket using a self-service terminal, you will need:

  • the passport number of one of the passengers indicated when purchasing the tickets;
  • the order number.

The control coupon is generated immediately after payment of the e-ticket. It contains the order number (14 digits) and the e-ticket number (also 14 digits). If there is one ticket in the order, these numbers match; if there is more than one ticket, the order number matches the number of the first passenger’s ticket.

Please note that receiving a paper ticket at the ticket office or terminal will cancel e-registration.

If you have any questions about e-ticketing, please contact the customer service team at ticket@rzd.ru. Be sure to include your username or order number.

How do I get a suburban train ticket (without e-registration)?

For express suburban trains with seat assignments, tickets can only be obtained from the ticket office or self-service terminals in the Russian Federation, within the train’s origin and destination stations.

I bought a ticket and then changed my passport (got married / reached the age of 20 or 45 / lost my old one). Do I need to change my ticket?

No. When boarding your train, you will need to present a new passport containing the page with the details of the previously issued passport (which are indicated on the ticket) and – in the event that your surname has changed – the original marriage certificate.

Can I present a notarised copy of my passport/birth certificate on boarding?

For adults, the original identity document must be presented when boarding the train. For children, a birth certificate or a notarised copy thereof is sufficient.

If I bought a ticket for a friend, which one of us should collect the ticket from the ticket office?

All railway tickets from the same order paid for on the website shall be collected upon presentation of the order form or order number (14 digits) either by one of the passengers using his/her identity document indicated on the order form or by a proxy upon presentation of a notarised power of attorney. Without a power of attorney, therefore, only your friend will be able to get a ticket at the ticket office.
