MOSCOW – ST. PETERSBURG HSL WILL BE THE FIRST ELEMENT IN RUSSIA’S THE HIGH-SPEED RAIL NETWORK
On the 679-kilometre Moscow – St. Petersburg high-speed line, trains will make up to 16 stops, depending on the timetable. This will enable passengers to travel quickly from Moscow to St. Petersburg, Russia’s northern capital, and to many other cities en route.
The total Moscow – St. Petersburg travel time will be 2 hours 15 minutes. Passengers will be able to get from Moscow to Tver in 39 minutes, while the journey from the capital to Valdai will take 1 hour 15 minutes and to Veliky Novgorod 1 hour 41 minutes.
In Moscow and St. Petersburg, trains will travel at 200 kph and between the two cities at speeds of up to 400 kph.
During the hours of peak demand, the interval between train departures will be up to 10 minutes with up to 40 trains per day running in both directions.
Every year, at least 23 million people are expected to use the Moscow – St. Petersburg high-speed line.
So far, more than 60% of the line’s design has been completed and construction on the most complex section at the exit from Moscow is underway. The country’s best construction and engineering resources are involved in the creation of the new high-speed line. They are paying particular attention to ecology and the environmental impact. In urban areas, trains will operate at minimal noise levels.
The launch of the Moscow – St. Petersburg High-Speed Railway is scheduled for 2028.
