On electronic media:
The Express Passenger Transportation Automated Control System operates in such a way that information on tickets for long-distance trains is stored in six data processing centres (DPCs) located in the following cities: St. Petersburg, Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Samara, Irkutsk and Rostov-on-Don.
Tickets are released 90 days before the train’s departure from the turnaround station or marshalling station and sales begin at 8am Moscow time at Moscow, St. Petersburg, Samara and Rostov-on-Don regional centres, 6am Moscow time at the Yekaterinburg regional centre, and 4am Moscow time at the Irkutsk regional centre.
To ensure that all passengers have the same opportunity to purchase tickets at ticket offices and on the Russian Railways website, tickets are made available 120, 90, 60 and 45 days prior to departure at the exact same time (i.e., the time the ticket office in the departure region opens).
Sales at ticket offices connected to the respective DPCs open at 8am local time. Seats on long-distance trains are put on sale automatically for all available carriages. All ticket offices located in the territory of the Russian Federation, the Commonwealth of Independent States, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, as well as passengers wishing to purchase tickets online, are given access to seats at the exact same time. Tickets are issued according to availability. And the number of available seats on long-distance trains, especially on days when lots of people typically travel, changes on a second-by-second basis.
To find any items left on the train, passengers need to fill out an electronic application and indicate their name, ticket number, phone number, e-mail address and the last four digits of the document number on which the ticket was issued. Passengers will also need to provide a description of the items left and indicate the presumed place in the carriage where they were forgotten.
After processing the application, the passenger will be asked to identify their belongings from photographs. The passenger will be informed about the results of the lost items search.
Searches are carried out within 30 days from the beginning of the journey. The service is available to long-distance train passengers.
