Father Frost Train

ПДМ.jpgOn 5 December 2021, the Father Frost train set off on its maiden journey. The Father Frost train is a special joint project between Russian Railways and the government of the Vologda Region. Its goal is to put children and adults into the New Year festive mood along its entire route, from Veliky Ustyug, the homeland of Father Frost, Russia’s Santa Claus, to all of Russia.

The Father Frost train is a festively decorated mobile residence. It features a Reception Carriage for Father Frost, a carriage with a Fairytale Village for games and quests, carriages with a stage and a puppet theatre for performances, a shop car offering souvenirs and sweets from the Russian North, a buffet car, and a restaurant car with an array of northern cuisine based on the recipes of Father Frost himself. Both the restaurant car and the buffet cars do tea parties. The train also has sleeper carriages for Father Frost ’s assistants. At the head of the train is a steam locomotive decorated with garlands made out of hundreds of lanterns. The train undergoes an update every year and receives new carriages to entertain the children.

The train’s route passes through more than 130 cities in Central and Northern Russia and runs along the Trans-Siberian Railway and the Baikal-Amur Main Line.

In every city where the train stops, children and their parents can take part in festive events, send greeting cards and receive a New Year present from Father Frost.

Everyone can also attend the free performances organised by Father Frost and his team at all the train’s arrival stations, as well as buy special tickets to visit the Residence and see the puppet show.

In 2022, the Father Frost Train project set a record and entered the Russian Book of Records after travelling 33,686 kilometres in three months.
