The double-decker carriages were built at the Tver Carriage Works using the latest technologies, equipment and materials. Their design incorporates advanced experience in the field of passenger carriage construction. The carriages carry almost twice as many passengers per run as conventional rolling stock.

In terms of comfort and equipment, the double-decker carriages correspond to modern traditional cars. Depending on the class, they are equipped with double or quadruple compartments, as well as carriages with seats. All carriages are equipped with dry closets which can be used during stops. The trains also include a dining car.

The double-decker carriages have a centralised power supply provided from an electric locomotive, which also increases the comfort of passenger travel. Anti-backlash coupling devices and sealed inter-carriage passages help to reduce the level of noise and vibrations in the carriage and increase passenger safety when moving from one carriage to another. In addition, the train is equipped with special lifts to enable wheelchair users to board from low platforms.

Russian Railways is constantly expanding the route network on which double-decker trains operate. Today the most popular destinations are Moscow – Bryansk, Moscow – Voronezh, Moscow – St. Petersburg, St. Petersburg – Adler, Moscow – Adler and St. Petersburg – Murmansk.
