Steam locomotive era began in Russia

This year marked the emergence of the Russia’s industrial locomotive building. The plant manufactured 2 freight locomotives of the 0-3-0 type, each weighing 30 tonnes, the diameter of the driving wheels was 1,371 mm. Between 1845 and 1868, steam locomotives were manufactured by two domestic factories only: the aforementioned Aleksandrovsky and Leuchtenberg plants of the Petersburg-Warsaw railway. Since 1869, the plants in Kolomna and Votkinsk became engaged in locomotive manufacturing. Later, the steam locomotive industry went on to evolve and boost. The production of passenger, freight, and shunting steam locomotives was in full swing in Russia.
