Freight traffic opens to the Azov and Black Sea ports bypassing Krasnodar
On February 6, freight traffic began on the new Kozyrki – Grechanaya section in the Krasnodar region of the North Caucasian railway.
This section is a fully electrified double-track trunk line linking the Volga region to the Azov and Black Sea ports. So, the transit traffic, which used to pass through Krasnodar, will now take a roundabout route, thus unloading the city’s transport system and improving its environmental conditions.
The 65-km double-track electrified line, including two freight stations Kirpili and Beysuzhek, was designed in 2013, and the active phase of the construction of the Kozyrki – Grechanaya section, the bypass around Krasnodar, started in 2017. The new trunk line has no level crossings along its way: all intersections with highways are designed as overpasses. The route includes 29 structures, including bridges, overpasses and underpasses for agricultural machinery.
The federal government and Russian Railways invested 36 billion rubles in the construction of the Kozyrki – Grechanaya section.
