Lokomotiv sports society established
The foundation of the society was announced on November 3, 1935 in the "Red Sport" newspaper. The news said that railway authorities established "Lokomotiv", a unified voluntary sports society, for the railway workers. The new sports society charter was approved on December 5, 1935, and by the instruction of the People’s Commissariat of Railways, January 12, 1936 was declared the official birthday of the "Lokomotiv" sports society.
Since 1952, the members of the society have been participating in the Olympic Games as part of the national team. They have won more than 70 Olympic medals.
Since 1957, the All-union voluntary sports society of railway workers "Lokomotiv", nowadays known as the Russian fitness and sports society "Lokomotiv", has been a member of the International Sports Railway Workers Union (USIC), the only international sports association of its kind.
The athletes of "Lokomotiv" are proud to have repeatedly won the awards and prizes at the competitions organized by the International Sports Railway Workers Union (USIC). Since joining the union, Russian contestants have scored more than 30 victories in the USIC Big Cup.
Although the Russian fitness and sports society "Lokomotiv" has been operating in its present form since April 23, 1992, the organization underwent a number of structural changes over the last two decades.
In recent years, the former glory of the "Lokomotiv" society in the all-Russian sports movement has been reviving. Both Russian Railways and trade unions have been actively sponsoring the society.
