CORPORATE SPORT PROGRAMMES
The Company attaches particular importance to promoting and popularising a healthy lifestyle and physical culture and sport among its employees, as well as the formation and development of a corporate culture.
The sport facilities at Russian Railways boast more than 1,500 sport sections covering the most popular kinds of sport and which are visited regular by some 40,000 people, including about 36,000 railway workers and their families.
Mass sport is one of the most accessible ways of increasing the team spirit among the workforce and developing mass participation in sport.
Competitions are held in accordance with an approved plan which lays out the framework for the qualifying rounds that are held at various levels from the hubs and regions to the regional rail companies. Based on the results, teams are then formed to participate in corporate events.
Corporate competitions between the combined rail teams are held annually, including:
- a cross-country skiing championship for Russian Railways’ employees;
- a chess championship for Russian Railways’ employees;
- the Russian Railways’ Ice Hockey Cup;
- sports and athletic meetings for employees at Russian Railways;
- the Russian Railways’ Cup for men’s volleyball teams;
- the Russian Railways Cup for women’s volleyball teams;
- the Russian Railways’ championship in beach sports.
Athletes who are employed at Russian Railways and take part in its company-wide teams also participate in the All-Russian Festival "Ready for Labour and Defense" and in the All-Russian Corporate Summer Games.
In 2018, the Company began the Silver Autumn Festival of Sport and a Healthy Lifestyle in order to encourage retired railway staff to follow a healthy lifestyle and do sport regularly to maintain their physical activity and form. More than 200 railway retirees and veterans from Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan now take part.
Every year, the Russian Railways’ team participates in the annual championships held by the International Sport Union of Railway Workers (ISU) across a range of various disciplines.
The Company also pays particular attention to the younger generation and arranges regular sport and fitness activities for children, including:
- sports and athletic meetings for the children of Russian Railways’ employees;
- the "Faster, Higher, Stronger!" summer festival of children’s sport;
- the Locobol DOL summer children’s competition and summer camp;
- the Turiada, an All-Russian festival of family teams consisting of Russian Railways’ employees;
- children’s sport competitions held jointly with professional sport clubs;
- the Lokobol-RZD (football);
- the Lokovolei (volleyball);
- "Lokobasket – School League" basketball competition.
More than 200,000 children take part in these competitions.
LOCOMOTIVE RUSSIAN PHYSICAL CULTURE AND SPORT CLUB
The history of Locomotive goes back well over a decade. Since 1952, the club’s athletes have been participating in the Olympic Games as members of the national team and have amassed over 70 Olympic medals to their credit. Since 1957, the All-Union Voluntary Sports Club of Locomotive Railway Workers, and today the Locomotive club, has been a member of the International Sports Union of Railway Workers (ISU), which is the only international sports association of its kind.
Athletes working on the railways occupy a firm and leading position in the life of the International Sports Union of Railway Workers (UISU). Since joining the Union, Locomotive athletes have won the ISU Grand Cup more than 30 times.
In the last two decades, the club has undergone a number of structural changes. In its current form, the public organisation the Locomotive Russian Physical Culture and Sport Club has been operating since 23 April 1992.
In recent years, Locomotive has resurrected its former glory in the All-Russian sport movement. Locomotive is actively supported by Russian Railways and ROSPROFZHEL.
The main tasks of the club are to:
- implement a programme to compensate the company’s employees for the cost of physical culture and sport;
- holding sport competitions for railway workers and their families.

LOCOMOTIVE FOOTBALL CLUB
Locomotive is a professional Russian football club in Moscow. One of the oldest football clubs in Russia, its history goes back to the founding of the Kazan team at Moscow Kazan Railways, but since then, it has undergone repeated name changes. In its current form it was founded on 23 July 1922 and now plays in the Russian Premier League. It has won the Russian championship three times and the Russian Cup ten times – the USSR Cup twice and the Russian Cup eight times. It has also won the Russian Super Cup three times and been a semi-finalist in the Cup Winners’ Cup twice.

LOCOMOTIVE-YAROSLAVL HOCKEY CLUB
A professional hockey club from the city of Yaroslavl, the team initially played in the city and regional championships. In the 1959/60 season, a club was formed which was declared a participant in the second Championship group of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR). Since 1987, it has been playing in the highest-level championships of first the USSR and then Russia and the CIS. It has been a member of the Continental Hockey League since 2008.
In the 2012/13 hockey season, Yaroslavl Locomotive made its long-awaited return to the elite of domestic Russian hockey. Every year, the railway teams take part in the championships and cups of the Continental and Youth Hockey Leagues.

LOCOMOTIVE KUBAN PROFESSIONAL BASKETBALL CLUB
The history of the Locomotive basketball team began in 1946 in Mineralnye Vody in South Russia. Basketball players from the Locomotive club in Mineralnye Vody played in the first league of the national championship and in 1994 were promoted to the elite division of Russian domestic basketball. In the summer of 2003, the club moved to Rostov-on-Don and changed its name to Locomotive Rostov.
As a result, the club played on the banks of the River Don for the next six years and was among the best teams in Russia, taking part regularly in the national championship playoffs and European competitions.
In Summer 2009, the club moved again, this time from Rostov-on-Don to Krasnodar and to a sports arena that met the updated requirements and regulations introduced by the Russian championship and European club tournaments. When the club relocated, it changed its name yet again from Locomotiv Rostov to Locomotive Kuban.
At present, the professional basketball team Locomotive Kuban is one of the best Russian basketball teams and takes part in international competitions every year, including the VTB United League, which brings together the best clubs in Eastern Europe.

LOCOMOTIVE NOVOSIBIRSK MEN’S VOLLEYBALL CLUB
The Novosibirsk men’s volleyball team was founded in 1977.
In 2003, Locomotive easily won the B Major League tournament and having earned the right to play in the Super League won the A Major League the following year.
In 2010 and 2011, the team won the Russian Cup, and in Spring 2013 achieved the best result in its history when it won the European Champions League. In 2014, the team won its first medals in the history of the Russian Championships, silver for runners up, and bronze for third place in 2017.
Volleyball remains one of the most popular spectator and participatory sports among railway workers. The Novosibirsk club is the only Locomotive club to the east of the Urals and attracts fans from all over Siberia.

LOCOMOTIVE MOSCOW BEACH FOOTBALL CLUB
The Locomotive Moscow beach football club was established in Summer of 2010. At the moment, Locomotive has won the most titles of any club in Russia. It is a two-time winner of the World Championship, four-time Russian Champion and four-time Russian Cup winner, as well as a winner of the European Champions Cup, the Istanbul Cup, the Barcelona Cup, the Eurasia Cup, the Alanya Cup and the Challenge Cup.
The club’s official history began on 9 April 2018.

With players from the Locomotive Professional Football Club (PFC) in the squad, the Russian beach soccer team won the World Championship and the European Championship in 2011 and 2013, earning the gold medal for Russia for the first time. In 2015, Locomotive players in the Russian national team achieved third place at the World Championship.
