Gorky Railway serves the Russian republics of Mordovia, Chuvashia, Udmurtia, Tatarstan, Mari El and Bashkortostan, and 9 oblasts or regions: Moscow, Vladimir, Nizhny Novgorod, Kirov, Perm, Yekaterinburg, Vologda, Ryazan and Ulyanovsk.
Gorky Railway is managed from its HQ in Nizhny Novgorod and connects Russia’s Central, North-West and Northern regions with the Volga region, the Urals and Siberia.
This is the only railway in the world named after the famous writer Maxim Gorky, who was born in Nizhny Novgorod and lived from 1868 to 1936.
